Thousands of citizens targeted by Biden Administration prosecutors including J6 protesters, have too often been financially ruined as a result. The same for prominent attorneys who supported Donald Trump and were singled out for lawfare by such well-funded organizations as Project 65.
Now the feds engaged in the Biden Justice Department’s nationwide legal offensive against Trump and those who have supported him are reportedly consulting lawyers, sending out résumés, and scrubbing their social media accounts ahead of the new administration. Oh and they are looking for financial support.
“The precedent on doing what they did, with the weaponization, using the DOJ and the FBI to go after their political opponents, that is so bad,” Trump said earlier in the year, adding that the “Pandora’s Box is open, and that means that I can do it too.”
“Law firms say they have seen an unprecedented flood of résumés from department lawyers looking for the exits,” the Wall Street Journal reported on Dec. 29.
CNN reported that several prominent white-collar lawyers across Washington have fielded calls in recent weeks from government officials, including investigators from special counsel Jack Smith’s office who are concerned they could be targeted by the incoming Trump administration.
Some attorneys involved in the pursuit of cases against Trump have consulted various law firms, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and senior officials, and even retained lawyers anticipating defending themselves in court when Trump takes office.
“Some federal investigators, including more junior staff, have talked to attorneys and legal groups about … how to avoid going bankrupt if the revenge probes come in full force,” Rolling Stone cited sources as saying.
Trump’s chief legal defender, Mike Davis, noted: “If these Justice Department attorneys have done nothing wrong, why are they so nervous?”
The Washington Post reported that some federal employees are scrambling to remove negative posts about Trump on their social media accounts: “Career civil servants are scrubbing social media, changing job titles and looking for private-sector work over fear that Trump might fire them.”
Some may be hoping for preemptive pardons before Joe Biden shuffles out of the White House.
“Biden’s senior aides inside the White House have been deliberating for weeks about the possibility of issuing preemptive pardons,” CNN reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions. “The move, which would cover people who haven’t ever been formally accused of any crimes, would be an extraordinary step and shows the grave concerns many Democrats have that Trump will prosecute a range of figures that he considers to be his enemies.”
CNN cited multiple sources as saying there have been discussions about setting up legal funds to help support those who would not be able to afford thousands of dollars in lawyers’ fees.
“Some of the private practice bar have discussed if influential white-collar practices could work together to help career Justice Department workers – and others who are exiting the federal workforce – to possibly provide them low-cost or pro-bono representation,” CNN reported.
