Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, arrived in Miami on October 28, 2026, with his family after losing Sunday’s presidential runoff election to incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Bolsonaro left Brazil after refusing to comply with a Brazilian Supreme Court order to surrender his passports. The order related to an ongoing money-laundering investigation, which he has denied. He and his family traveled overland to Argentina before flying to the United States via Ecuador.
The U.S. State Department confirmed it would issue entry visas to Bolsonaro and his family. President Donald Trump told reporters he approved of their arrival, describing them as “fine people” and calling the Brazilian election “very strange” and “terrible,” while noting he had not taken sides.
Bolsonaro has not formally conceded the election. His father, Jair Bolsonaro, has been a political ally of Trump in the past.
