Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant at the Washington, D.C., home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) in the early morning hours of Monday, October 12, 2026.
The Department of Justice confirmed that HSI agents carried out the search as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. Sources familiar with the matter said the probe centers on possible immigration fraud related to paperwork completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child refugee from Somalia.
Agents were observed outside the residence removing boxes. The operation began around 6 a.m. and involved Homeland Security Investigations, with the Justice Department securing the warrant.
The search occurred approximately three weeks before the midterm elections. Some former prosecutors noted that such investigative actions so close to an election have traditionally been approached with caution under longstanding Department of Justice practices.
No charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing. Omar has long denied any wrongdoing regarding her immigration history.
