January 4 — In an apparent extension of the December drone incidents above Langley, an F-22 Raptor stealth fighter encounters a small drone above or near Joint Base Langley-Eustis near Hampton, Virginia, forcing it to deviate from its course to avoid a collision. (Kyle Warfel and Christopher Sharp, “F-22 Near Miss with Unidentified Object Outside Langley AFB, <www.liberationtimes.com/home/f-22-near-miss-with-unidentified-object-outside-langley-afb-drone-incursions-extended-beyond-december-2023-as-questions-are-raised-about-usaf-transparency>” Liberation Times, October 24, 2024)

January 7 — Alain Juillet <fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alain_Juillet>, former director of intelligence within the French General Directorate of External Security (DGSE), tells UAPCheck News in an interview: “What is terrible about unidentified objects, flying or otherwise, is that these are systems against which our armies are incapable of responding. We are faced with something we do not control.” He thinks a key characteristic is their transmedium abilities—to become unidentified submerged objects with little transition. Robert Garcia <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Garcia_(California_politician)> (D-Calif.) and Glenn Grothman <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Grothman> (R-Wis.). It aims to encourage UAP reporting to the Federal Aviation Administration by pilots and other civilian aviation personnel and offers legal protection against repercussions. The FAA would also be required to collect data and conduct investigations into UAP reports it receives, after which the information is to be shared with the DoD’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO). January 12 — Morning. Legislators on the House Oversight Committee receive a closed-door briefing on UAPs from Thomas Monheim <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Monheim>, inspector general of the intelligence community. Many emerging from the meeting say they remain frustrated in their attempts to get more information on David Grusch <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Grusch_UFO_whistleblower_claims>’s sensational claims. However, Rep. Robert Garcia <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Garcia_(California_politician)> (D-Calif.) says that “it’s reasonable to say that everyone that was in the room received probably new information.” Rep. Tim Burchett <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Burchett> (R-Tenn.) says the meeting provided “some validity to what’s been said.” (“Lawmakers Investigating UAPs, or UFOs, Remain Frustrated after Closed-Door Briefing with Government Watchdog, <www.cbsnews.com/news/uap-ufo-briefing-house-inspector-general-intelligence-community/>” CBS News, January 12, 2024; “U.F.O.s Remain a Mystery to Lawmakers after Classified Briefing, <www.nytimes.com/2024/01/12/us/politics/ufos-aliens-classified-briefing.html> ” *New York Times,* January 12, 2024; “Burchett: Classified UFO Briefing ‘Energized’ Congress on Issue, More Hearings Expected, <thehill.com/homenews/house/4406775-burchett-classified-ufo-briefing-energized-congress/>” The Hill, January 13, 2024)

January 19 — Sean Kirkpatrick <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_M._Kirkpatrick> asserts that his “Historical Record Report, Volume 1” is being prepared for delivery to Congress and the public, although it is unclear whether he is submitting it to the Defense Office of Prepublication and Security Review. He also says that allegations of a crash/retrieval cover-up that “captured the attention of policymakers and the public, driving legislative battles and dominating the public narrative” are largely the product of former AATIP personnel, namely associates of Robert Bigelow <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Bigelow>. He also states that “none of the conspiracy-minded whistleblowers” have come to AARO to provide their evidence. However, David Grusch <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Grusch_UFO_whistleblower_claims> says he was in email contact with AARO in October 2023, but was concerned about the way the office is handling classified compartmentalized information. (Sean Kirkpatrick, “Here’s What I Learned As the U.S. Government’s UFO Hunter, <web.archive.org/web/20240201075508/https:/www.scientificamerican.com/article/heres-what-i-learned-as-the-u-s-governments-ufo-hunter/> ” *Scientific American,* January 19, 2024; Christopher Sharp, “Former UFO Office Director’s Opinions Draw Scrutiny on Impartiality and Investigation Handling, <www.liberationtimes.com/home/former-ufo-office-directors-opinions-draw-scrutiny-on-impartiality-and-investigation-handling>” Liberation Times, January 22, 2024; Billy Cox, “Yeah, Blame the Conspiracy Nuts, <lifeinjonestown.substack.com/p/yeah-blame-the-conspiracy-nuts>” Life in Jonestown, January 22, 2024)

January 24 — The Department of Defense Inspector General releases an unclassified summary of its August 15, 2023, report on the DoD’s actions regarding UAP. It reveals that different components within the DoD have developed varied processes for the collection, analysis, and identification of UAP incidents. This lack of uniformity and integration poses potential risks to national security and military forces. The summary states, “the DoD’s lack of a comprehensive, coordinated approach to address UAP may pose a threat to military forces and national security.” (“Unclassified Summary of Report No. DODIG-2023-109, ‘Evaluation of the DoD’s Actions Regarding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena,’ August 15, 2023, <media.defense.gov/2024/Jan/25/2003381266/-1/-1/1/UNCLASSIFIED%20SUMMARY_UNIDENTIFIED%20ANOMALOUS%20PHENOMENA%20SECURE.PDF>” Department of Defense Office of Inspector General, January 24, 2024; John Greenewald, “IG’s Evaluation of the DoD’s Actions Regarding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Finally Released, <www.theblackvault.com/documentarchive/igs-evaluation-of-the-dods-actions-regarding-unidentified-anomalous-phenomena-finally-released/>” The Black Vault, January 25, 2024; Howard Altman, “Watchdog Says Pentagon’s UAP Response May Pose Threat to National Security, <www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/watchdog-says-pentagons-uap-response-may-pose-threat-to-national-security>” The Drive: The War Zone, January 25, 2024)

The object has three white lights at its corners and a central red light at its rear, which blinks out after 30 seconds. Neither onboard radar for the Traffic Collision Avoidance System detects it. After about 3 minutes, the object appears to emit a static discharge and vanishes, leaving the pilots to wonder whether it had accelerated or merely gone dark. They capture a few photos of the object on a cellphone. (National UFO Reporting Center, “NUFORC Sighting 180940, <nuforc.org/sighting/?id=180940>” April 27, 2024)
