A bill introduced by Florida senators would eliminate the Democrat Party in the state altogether over its racist roots.
SB 1248, known as “The Ultimate Cancel Act,” digs deep into Democrats’ past back to the 1800s when the party supported slavery.
Without specifically mentioning Democrats, the bill says it would “immediately cancel the filings of a political party, to include its registration and approved status as a political party, if the party’s platform has previously advocated for, or been in support of, slavery or involuntary servitude.”
The bill, introduced by Republican Senator Blaise Ingoglia, would affect the Democrat party as Southern Democrats defended slavery during the Civil War.
“Under the Bill, registered Democrats would be automatically re-registered as having ‘no party affiliation,'” reports WESH. “The Democratic party officers could reorganize, but only under a substantially different name.”
Sen. Ingoglia told WESH the bill is a result of the Democrat’s woke cancel culture coming home to roost.
“For years now, leftist activists have been trying to ‘cancel’ people and companies for things they have said or done in the past,” he said. “This includes the removal of statues and memorials, and the renaming of buildings. Using this standard, it would be hypocritical not to cancel the Democrat Party itself for the same reason.”
Slavery and racism was so popular for the party the slogan for the 1868 Democratic National Convention was “Our ticket, Our Motto: This is a White Man’s Country; Let White Men Rule.”
