The word “individual” is actually used around ten times in the updated CDC guidance for Covid-19.
Some of the things included in the new CDC recommendations include only wearing a mask after being exposed to Covid or testing positive, unvaccinated people have the same immunity as fully vaccinated individuals, and those without symptoms no longer need to be screened.
As Dr. Marcus Plescia, chief medical officer for the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, said, “That is consistent with where we are in the pandemic right now. I don’t really think there are many state or local jurisdictions that are feeling they’re going to need to start making mandates.”
“Based on the latest … data, it’s around 95% of the population,” the CDC’s Greta Massetti explained. “And so it really makes the most sense to not differentiate,” since many people have some protection against severe disease.
